Update, 4:30 p.m. EDT -- Princess Cruises issued the following comment regarding its upcoming cruise calls in Samoa: "We're currently in the process of making contact with our port agents in Pago Pago and Apia, where Sun Princess and Star Princess are scheduled to visit next week. As soon as we get further details, we'll let you know."
(10:15 a.m. EDT) -- The U.K.'s Foreign Office (FCO) is advising against all but essential travel to Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga, a day after tsunami waves flattened villages and swept cars and people out to sea.
According to the Associated Press, at least 99 people have been killed as a result of the tsunami, which was triggered by an earthquake with a magnitude between 8.0 and 8.3.
The U.S. Department of State has not issued a similar travel advisory at this time.
Princess Cruises is the next scheduled cruise line to visit Samoa, with Sun Princess set to dock in Apia on October 8 and Pago Pago on October 9, and Star Princess set to visit the ports on October 9 (Apia) and October 10 (Pago Pago). Princess Cruises has yet to issue a statement.
